Leather Black composite fence panels

Our most requested colour on the coast. Brushed surface, matte finish, aluminum posts — built for salt air, wind and the sloped lots along the water.

Leather Black is not the same as "a black fence". It is one specific board with one specific surface, and that surface is the reason people ask for it by name.

Composite fences in White Rock BC

White Rock is a hard place to keep a fence looking good. Frequent rain, damp winters, wind exposure off the water and salt air close to the shoreline all work on a wood fence at once. Cedar looks right for two summers, then the sanding and staining starts and does not stop.

Leather Black (MSCF0004) is the colour we supply most often to White Rock, South Surrey and the shoreline edges of Delta and Richmond. Part of that is the look — the modern builds along the water almost all have black window frames, dark metal trim and glass, and a brushed black fence finishes that palette rather than fighting it. Part of it is simply that nothing on this fence needs painting, staining or sealing.

Service area: White Rock, South Surrey, Surrey, Delta, Richmond and Metro Vancouver.

The part that actually matters on the coast

It is not the board. It is the post.

A steel post depends on its coating. Once that coating is nicked at the base — a shovel, a mower, a stone thrown by a mower — salt air and water get underneath it, and the corrosion works outward from a point nobody can see until the post is already going. Near the water that happens faster.

Our posts are aluminum, 80 × 80 mm, with top and bottom channels holding the boards. Aluminum has no equivalent failure path: there is no coating for salt to get behind. On a White Rock or South Surrey lot that is worth more than any finish on the panel face.

White Rock slopes and retaining walls

The common local scenario is a fence running along a sloped property line or sitting on top of an existing retaining wall. Both are where fences go wavy, and Leather Black shows a wavy line more than any other colour we carry.

How we handle it:

  • Set the line before anything goes in the ground. String lines and step points planned across the whole run, not decided post by post as the crew works down the slope.
  • Match the mounting to the site. In-ground posts on soil; anchor-base posts on concrete, patios and existing retaining walls.
  • Keep the reveals consistent. Equal gaps between bays are what make a stepped run read as one deliberate wall instead of a series of separate fences.

If a retaining wall is involved, confirm your permitted height before ordering — the wall changes what the municipality measures. Our Metro Vancouver fence height rules page covers how each city handles it.

Brushed, not embossed

This is the thing that separates Leather Black from every other board we stock, and it is worth understanding before you order.

Arctic Grey, Charcoal Grey, Shadow Grey, Walnut Wood and Oak White all use 3D deep embossing — a pressed grain that throws shadow and reads as timber from a few paces back. Leather Black uses a brushing surface instead: a fine directional texture rather than a wood grain.

The result holds a flat, even black across a long run and picks up light along the length of the board rather than in the grain. Closer to a powder-coated metal panel than to a plank. If you want a fence that reads as wood, one of the embossed boards is the right call. If you want a dark architectural line that is not imitating anything, Leather Black is the only board in the range that does it.

Where Leather Black earns its place

Swipe to see all four

Black window frames

The most common reason people ask for it. Black frames, dark trim and a black fence line read as one deliberate palette instead of three near-misses.

Glass and concrete

Glass railings, board-formed concrete and standing-seam metal all sit better beside a brushed face than an embossed one, which starts to look like a wood offcut next to them.

Strata and multi-unit

A single flat black is the easiest finish to match years later when one panel gets damaged. Wood-grain boards are much harder to blend on a repair.

Where it fights

Heritage and craftsman houses, warm brick, cedar soffits. Those yards want Walnut Wood instead — it does the job Leather Black cannot.

Built for coastal weather

WPC blends wood fibre with performance polymers. The point is to keep a solid, substantial feel while improving weather resistance and dimensional stability over wood.

For a White Rock or South Surrey property that means no rot, no splitting, no splinters, better resistance to moisture movement than a wood fence, and no maintenance schedule. Rinse it with water; mild soap for a stubborn mark. That is the whole routine.

See the surface in motion

A brushed black face is the hardest finish to photograph. A camera meters for the sky, the fence goes to solid black, and the directional texture disappears entirely.

Ordering

Supply-only for contractors and experienced DIY builders, or supplied and installed by our crew. Supply-only orders are bundled by bay so the count on site matches the count on the invoice.

Send your fence length, the height you need, how many gates, your city, and a few photos. On a White Rock or South Surrey slope, one photo taken from the side so the grade is visible is worth more than any measurement.

Leather Black, quoted for your site

Send your measurements for a material list and a quote, or come and put the brushed face next to an embossed board at our Coquitlam warehouse. Side by side the difference is obvious in about two seconds — on a screen it is almost invisible.
